So it's not exactly accurate but these lyrics kept sticking out in my head on Monday when London had his "surgery" for his teeth, because as much as Mike wants to deny it, he was tearing up too:
Tough Little Boys by Gary Allan
Well I never once
Backed down from a punch
Well I'd take it square on the chin
But I found out fast
That bullies just laugh
And we've got to stand up to them
So I didn't cry when I got a black eye
As bad as it hurt, I just grinned
But when tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again.
Scared me to death
When you took your first steps
And I'd fall every time you fell down
Your first day of school, I cried like a fool
And I followed your school bus to town
Well I didn't cry, when Old Yeller died
At least not in front of my friends
But when tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again
Well I'm a grown man
But as strong as I am
Sometimes its hard to believe
How one little girl, with little blonde curls
Could totally terrify me
If you were to ask, my wife would just laugh
She'd say "I know all about men
How tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again"
Well I know one day, I'll give you away
But I'm gonna stand there and smile
But when I get home, and I'm all alone
Well, I'll sit in your room for a while
Well I didn't cry when Old Yeller died
At least not in front of my friends
But when tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again
When tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again
London had to be put to sleep to have caps put on his teeth (refer to my other post for more information on why) ;) The whole procedure took about 2 hours and thank God Mike came with me because I really don't think that I could have done it without him. I'm pretty proud of myself though, I didn't cry :) I was definitely on the verge but never actually cried. It made me gain a lot of respect for parents that have to see their children hooked up to machines and i.v.s every day. That image of him hooked up to all the machines with his eyes taped shut will forever be burned into my head. He did so good though, I am so proud of my little Trooper. :) Mike and I got to sit and watch him through the whole surgery which, initially I didn't want to do, but now I'm glad we did. It's amazing how much my life depended on hearing his heart beating on the monitor. It made me think about when I was in labor with him and I remember listening to his heart monitor then. I knew that as long as his heart was beating, he was alive and hopefully going to be okay. So we made it through the dreaded day and now Connor is more than welcome to come at any time now! Sooner would be better! You hear that little guy? We all want to meet you so come out now ;)
